With so little happening on the streets of the Lower East Side and Chelsea, I was glad to discover some refreshing street art in the vicinity of Ad Hoc. I love this image!

LES Paste-Up
'had hoped to find a few treasures as I walked along Rivington and neighboring blocks on the LES. But between the recession and the cold, even the street art was not quite "happening." Across from the school I worked in last year was this paste-up. 'couldn't imagine what Santa was doing in this popular street art spot (that's hosted Swoon and Jef Aerosol) until I noticed the gun in his hand. Oh, well!

Ben Finer in "The Piece Process"
'wanted to check out the exhibit at Anonymous Gallery once more before it closed. I could barely see anything at the opening. Today, of course, Tara and I had the place to ourselves. I discovered many intriguing pieces including this one by Ben Finer, who used acrylic on comic book newsprint to create a mesmerizing collage of images.

from Zahanara Aktar's Sketchbook
Zahanara came by with artwork today for me to include in the exhibit I'm curating for the Hamilton Fish Park Branch of the NYPL. I told her to also bring her sketchbook. So glad I did, as her best work was there. I love these intricate designs and their Eastern flavor.

"The Deadly 4MULA"
Tara and I went up to the Bronx to see the exhibit that Meres curated at the Haven Arts Gallery. We ended up getting lost and after roaming around the South Bronx in the rain for about an hour, I said to Tara, "This better be worth it." Well, it was! The exhibit is truly amazing. The art is so much fun, and the installation is perfect. It continues through 1/30 @ 50 Bruckner Blvd, Bldg. A.
