I found one of my son's black books from his early years at FIT -- anywhere between 1998-2001. This is among the tags I discovered.

From Dani's Black Books, 1992 - 2002
As I continued to empty out my house today in Teaneck, I came across some of my son's black books from the 90's. Here's a sampling:

From Kove's Black Book
Kove's black books are among my favorite. Whether his art work or some other writer's, the pieces and tags are among the most vibrant I've seen.

From Over's Black Book
I met Over up in the Bronx a few months back on my first visit to Da Bakery on Southern Blvd His knowledge of Bronx graffiti is as astounding as the black books he shared with me.

From Black Book of Young Writer in Paris
I guess I'm addicted to black books, as I approach strangers doing walls and ask for permission to check out their black books. I wish I remembered this writer's name -- who graciously allowed me to photograph this page
REUSE PROJECT 3 in Tel Aviv (OPENING TOMORROW!!!)
Quite an amazing list of participants. 'sorry I'm missing this.

From Juan Carlos Mejia's Sketch Book
I met Juan Carlos Mejia last year in Bogota. He was working on a wall -- that he was commissioned to do -- and I stopped to talk to him. This piece is among the many of his sketches that captivated me.
From Joshua Lutz's Black Book
Working 24/7 clearing out my home in Teaneck -- with no street art/graffiti anywhere in sight --, I'm turning to black book images to sustain me! I discovered Joshua Lutz's black book earlier this year at the Going Postal exhibit at Ad Hoc. This is one of a few pages that I photographed.

Found in Berner's Black Book -- late 80's
While clearing out my house in Teaneck and going through thousands of books, I came across a former student's black book. I remember Berner's passion for graf when I was his English teacher in the mid to late 80's on the Lower East Side. 'so cool to rediscover this so many years later.

In Back of Da Bakery
Besides all the cool art inside Da Bakery @ 1700 Southern Blvd in the Bronx, there's always something happening in the back. I came upon this earlier in the week. I love it!

Found in Spare2's Black Book
I met Spare2, a ninth grader at the High School of Art and Design, up at Da Bakery in the Bronx last night. I love meeting young, cool graffiti aficionados. At times like this, I miss teaching high school! Anyway, thanks, Spare2, for sharing your black book and all its great tags with me.
In the Bronx
Walking along Southern Blvd this afternoon, I saw more tags, throw-ups and bombs than I've seen just about anywhere else. Despite massive urban renewal, scenes like this -- reminiscent of some I recently saw in the non-gentrified sections of Bed-Stuy -- remain.
