Overconsmer in the South Bronx
Overconsumer's stickers are everywhere in NYC, but this is the first piece of his I've seen (and it is up in the Bronx!)
Philly Sticker Art
The stickers in Philly are probably the best anywhere -- in terms of variety, quality, etc. I could spend weeks in Philly just sticker-hunting and still not document them all. I'm amazed at the care that goes into creating these stickers and the artists' abilities to collaborate.

North Philly Graffiti
I revisited "the" wall on North 5th yesterday. It has been perfectly maintained. I just hope it won't be a casualty of the gentrification creeping closer and closer to the heart of Kensington.
Abandoned in North Philly
Certain areas of North Philly are gentrifying so rapidly that scenes like this are soon to disappear. Signs everywhere are offering to buy folks' homes. But I wonder where they're going and for what price.

The Prolific Katsu
Ever since Katsu made headlines ( at least on street art blogs!) with his massive MOCA tag, I've been paying closer attention to his work on the streets here. He seems to be everywhere!

In Toronto, AWOL CREW
A friend from Toronto -- who prefers to remain anonymous and give credit only to the artists -- sent me some amazing pics of walls. This is among my favorites.

In Tribeca
Tara is develping a sixth sense for cool street art. She found this one in the vicinity of St John's University on Murray Street.
OverUnder in Coney Island
It was already dark when Samantha -- by chance -- came upon OverUnder and Veng at work on a mural on Surf Avenue. I'm so glad she had a camera with her!

Pixo in the East Village
I've been increasingly noticing this Pixo tag. This may be the most conspicuous -- on the corner of St. Marks Place.

Yasmin Shoots 5Pointz
I finally had a chance to check out some of the photos Yasmin Jones, my City-as-School intern, took last week at 5Pointz. She has lots of great ones, including this fabulous Ka TVT piece.

Cope2 in "Transition"
Although I missed the opening, (and thanks, Shawnee, for going and taking all these cool photos), I did get over there on Sunday. I liked what I saw. The exhibit seems to reflect a new direction for Cope2 -- artistically and conceptually, 'will return with my interns on Friday, as I'm curious to get their reaction and I want more time there myself!

Revisiting Faves @ 5Pointz, LIC
There are some walls I never tire of revisiting. I saw this as it was being painted. I'm as awed now as I was quite a few months back (Meeting of Styles, 2010.)

5Pointz, LIC
Another new mural at 5Pointz -- I'm loving these insane characters and the frenetic colors.

5Pointz, LIC
'went with my interns to 5Pointz today to document walls. There were a few new murals. Among my favorites was one with some of the coolest characters I've seen in awhile.

In Chelsea
'curious about this as it seemed to be everywhere today as we walked from the Meatpacking District to Chelsea.

Graffiti in Portsmouth!
News - Local News: Welcome to Portsmouth! (Portsmouth) This is interesting. But this statement bothers me: "Graffiti has a lot of negative connotations so we prefer to call it street art." Instead of calling graffiti "street art," graffiti should be identified as the precursor of it all.
Way Up In the Bronx
I almost never take the 1 train above 168th Street, but yesterday on our way to Riverdale, we took it to the last stop. What a graffiti paradise! Bombs and throw-ups -- some beautifully executed -- seemed to be everywhere -- on rooftops, on buildings and below ground level.

FAUST in HUELESS
FAUST in HUELESS Originally uploaded by LoisInWonderland
I've always imagined that FAUST is an exceptional artist. His handstyle(s) give him away. Still I was awed by this remarkable acrylic on canvas, "Beyond a Shadow of a Doubt." Although I didn't love all the pieces on exhibit in HUELESS (150 11th Avenue though 4.13) there are enough -- like this one -- to make it worth a visit.Saturday, April 2, 2011
Gary Baseman @ Jonathan LeVine
I was never a big Gary Baseman fan until seeing his current exhibit -- sadly ending today -- at Jonathan LeVine. Characterized by an eerie beauty and subtle complexity, the images on exhibit will long linger in my mind.
